Dojindo Shrine
One of the remnants of the Chinese Quarter. It was originally built in response to the wishes of the captains of Chinese ships. Although it was destroyed by fire in later years, it has since been restored. At night, the shrine is illuminated with vibrant Chinese-style lighting, evoking a sense of distant foreign culture.
-
Minato Park
This park features Chinese-style gardens and a Chinese gate. During the Spring Festival, it becomes the main venue for the Nagasaki Lantern Festival, with approximately 15,000 lanterns and large-scale objects creating a fantastical world.
-
Chinese Gates
At the four entrances to Nagasaki Shinchi Chinatown (facing east, west, south, and north), vermilion-painted Chinese gates stand. The east gate features the Blue Dragon, the west gate the White Tiger, the south gate the Vermilion Phoenix, and the north gate the Black Tortoise, animals from Chinese legend representing the cardinal directions. During nighttime illumination, they display vibrant colors.
-
Shinchi Chinatown
One of Japan’s three major Chinatowns, Shinchi Chinatown in Nagasaki is lined with Chinese restaurants and souvenir shops selling goods from China. It forms a unique townscape in Nagasaki. During the Spring Festival (Chinese New Year), it serves as one of the venues for the Nagasaki Lantern Festival, where vibrant red lanterns adorn the streets.

Dejima
Dejima was the only place where trade with Western Europe was allowed under the national isolation policy during the Edo Period. Restoration efforts are underway to recreate Dejima’s historical appearance. At night, the outer stone walls are lit up, making them appear to float on the water surface, and the light leaking from the restored buildings gives a sense of time travel back to that era.
